Dr. Salah AsSawy
Born and raised in Egypt, Dr. Salah asSawy completed memorizing Quran when he was 7, taking first place in a national Quran memorization contest in 1962. He continued to excel in his youth, ranking first in his local town and fifth nationwide when he graduated from high school. He completed his Bachelor’s degree in the faculty of Legislation and Law at Al-Azhar University and earned his PhD in Islamic Religious Sciences in the faculty of Legislation and Law, graduating with distinction and the highest level honors.
He has taught at several prestigious institutions including at the Faculty of Legislation and Law at Al-Azhar University, and at Umm Al Qura University in Saudia Arabia. He also served as director for the Islamic World League’s Scientific Miracle Association, and the director for the organization’s Legislative Research Centers in Islamabad, as well as the US.
He co-founded the American Open University and was vice-president from the university’s inception in 1995 until 2004. He also helped to found the Assembly of Muslim Jurists in North America (AMJA) which provides answers to critical jurisprudential issues confronting Muslims in the West, and currently serves as AMJA’s Secretary General.
In 2004, he co-founded Sharia Academy of America, now called Mishkah University, and has served as the institution’s president since 2006.
Daniel Hernandez was born in New York of Puerto Rican descent. He was raised in New Jersey and as a youngster use to love Basketball and singing Spanish Rap. Daniel abandoned a music contract for Islam. In 1999 he accepted Islam after spending 9 months in a comparative reading between the Quran and 6 Bibles. In 2002 Imam Hernández initiated an Introductory Class about Islam In Spanish to teach his parents who had just accepted Islam in New Jersey. As the class grew Imam Hernandez felt the need to embark on a journey to learn the Arabic Language and Islamic disciplines in order for him to be better prepared to carry this responsibility. He was granted a full scholarship in 2004 to study in Egypt . He studied 3 years at Eqraa Arabic Institute alongside 4 years at Al Azhar and has continued his studies ever since for the past 11 years. Imam Hernandez has attained several Ijazah in various Islamic diciplines and is currently studying with Mishkah University under the leadership of Shaikh Salah Sawwi and Roots and Sprouts studying under Shaikh Mamdouh Mahmoud
Shaikh Mamdouh was raised in a practicing Muslim family and he started memorizing Qura’n at the age of 4 under the supervision of his father, Shaikh Moustafa Mahmoud, who is currently serving as the Imam of the Islamic Society of Greater Houston, North Zone Masjid in Texas.
He is also a founding member of the Islamic Jurisprudence Council of Minnesota (IJCM), the Quraa (Quran reciters) Association of America, and a member of the North American Imam Federation (NAIF). He Served from (2009-2011) as the Director of Sharia Academy of America, currenlty Mishkah University- Houston branch which he helped founding. He is also an instructor with the Islamic University of North America (IUNA) /Mishkah University.
He served as the Imam of masjid Al-Ansar, serving the Woodlands and Conroe, TX. (2009-2011). He continuted to be the volunteer Imam untill August of 2012.
Shaikh Mamdouh started his new buisness (Roots & Sprouts LLC) on the summer of 2011 to provide educational services and teach on different premises using a mix of classical and innovative methods. This, By far, is his new baby and as you notice that Shaikh Mamdouh is skilled alhamdulliah in helping establishing new organizations and bringing -With Allah’s bounty- ideas and visions to reality.
Nicholas Pelletier is a native of Massachusetts. He graduated from the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with a BA in Political Science. Nick worked for 2 years as the Public Affairs Representative for the Muslim American Society Freedom Foundation in Boston, working in Civic Activism, Public Relations, and Community Organizing. In 2006 He left to study Arabic and Fiqh in Egypt for 2 years. In 2009 He began his studies in the Islamic University in Medina where he completed the Arabic Program and graduated from the College of Islamic Law with a BA in Sharia. He is currently the Imam of ISGH Champions – Masjid As-Salam. He is married with 3 children.
A young and inspirational speaker, Imam Hafiz Tauqer Shah, brings a unique perspective and contemporary understanding to the classical teachings of Islam. He completed memorization of Qur’an at a very young age followed by Tajweed and Qira’at lessons with many teachers in US and abroad. He further expanded his studies of Qur’an Sciences, Hadith, Arabic Grammar, Fiqh and Tazkiyyah. He traveled to Darul Uloom New York and then Canada and further went on to study at Karachi, Pakistan. He also earned his bachelor’s degree from The University of Houston, Bauer College of Business. His primary teacher and mentor is his father, Maulana Ghulam Murtaza Shah. Currently, He is the Imam and Religious Advisor at Maryam Islamic Center
Abdullah Smith was born and raised in Atlantic City, New Jersey. Abdullah accepted Islam in 1991 at the age of 14. He studied at the Islamic University of Madinah from the year 2000 to 2006. During this time he had the blessing of being able to study with scholars like: Shaikh Abdul Muhsin Al-Abbaad, The Mufti Abdul Aziz Aalish-Shaikh, Shaikh Saalih Al-Fawzaan, Shaikh Saalih Aalish-Shaikh, Shaikh Muhammad Al-Mukhtaar Ash-Shinqeetee, and many others. He was selected by his teachers as student of the year during his freshman year and runner up for student if the year his sophomore year. Abdullah graduated from the College of Hadeeth with honors in 2006. He was ranked 13th in his class with a GPA of 4.78 out of 5.0 (this is equivalent to 3.8 out of 4.0). Abdullah has served as imaam in several Masjids around the country, lectured in colleges & universities around the country, and has led many youth initiatives around the country. Currently, Abdullah Smith is serving as the Imaam of the newly built Masjid As-Sahaabah in conroe, TX.
Sh. Yahya Suufi was born in Somalia where he completed his Memorization of the Holy Quran at a young age, as it is custom for many youth in Somalia. During his teenage years, his family relocated to Seattle, WA where he eventually graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma, WA.
After high school, Sh. Yahya decided to seek Islamic knowledge and begin his studies at IIASA in VA for 2 years. He then embarked on a long journey of seeking knowledge in Madinah for 11 years. Sh. Yahya graduated from the Islamic University of Madinah receiving a Bachelor degree in Islamic Shariah, with highest honors from the Faculty of Shariah, and a Masters in Principles of Islamic Jurisprudence entitled “Effect of legal maxims on Muslim minorities’ law” with high distinction. Prior to his completion, Sh. Yahya also received an Associate of Advanced Arabic Sciences at the Islamic University of Madinah in 2004.
Sh. Yahya has adequate knowledge of all four Madhaahibs, Fiqh of Muslim minorities and the purposes of Shariah Law. Sh. Yahya is currently the Imam of Masjid Al-Ansaar in The Woodlands, TX and an active lecturer at Al-Huda
